Heat

A cooling center is a facility, such as a library, senior center or community center, where people may go to enjoy air-conditioned comfort during a heat emergency.  Cooling Centers are activated by the Providence Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Office of Mayor David Cicilline, Office of Neighborhood Services, the city’s libraries and recreation centers when temperatures reach dangerous hot levels.

Do not open fire hydrants to stay cool and report open hydrants to the Fire Department by dialing 272-1111.  Open fire hydrants reduce water pressure and are dangerous to firefighters.

When cooling centers are needed, a list of locations will be posted on the www.readyprov.com website.
