Volunteer

Before a disaster, get involved and become familiar with community resources:

• The Volunteer Center – Find out which community organizations need your skills and expertise.
• Citizen Corp – Coordinates volunteer programs to support first responders.
• Auxiliary Communications Services (ACS) – Become a HAM radio operator or volunteer your services. 415.558.2717.
• Volunteer to develop site-specific disaster plans for your workplace, child’s daycare center, or apartment building if they don’t already have one.

After a disaster, volunteers will play a crucial role in recovery efforts:

• The Volunteer Center will match your skills and interests with the community agencies that need your help most. Listen for information on the location of your local Emergency Volunteer Center.
• San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT), a program of the Fire Department, provides free training so you can help yourself and your neighbors after a disaster.
